The first stage of the car drive test victoria is about 10 minutes, and the applicant will perform basic and simple tasks in a low-risk area where traffic is not too much, and the learner can perform the job efficiently. This stage is accessed based on the applicant’s basic driving skills, knowledge, and road sense. It consists of driving lessonslike straight drive, turning right or left, following road speed, speed on humps, stops on stop signs and behaviour on give ways and many more. Applicants perform seven tasks altogether in the stage 1 driving assessment.
These include two important and crucial tasks, which are:
1-Three Point Turn between kerb to kerb or Using driveway (Maximum up to footpath).
2-Reverse Parallel Parking.
Once stage 1 is over, the LTO will ask the applicant to pull over to the kerb to enter and calculate the stage 1 score and do the total. Applicant can move to stage 2 only if he has satisfactory results in stage 1.
Stage 2-
The second stage is about 20 minutes, and the applicant has to perform more challenging driving tasks and deal with busier traffic conditions.
This stage is accessed based on straight driving, lane change, act on different speed limits, watching mirrors and shoulder check while changing lanes.
Other steps will also be considered, such as checking the back mirror before braking, merging into the right lane, conducting roundabouts, and performing U-turns in the driving route. There are 14 to 21 assessable tasks (depends on the Test routes); that the Licence Testing Officer can ask the applicant to perform in the stage 2 driving test.
LTO will assess the stage 2 performance, and the applicant will be informed about the outcome of pass/fail and any improvement needed before solo driving.
